Our Story

In 1987, Karen and her husband John acquired the building that now houses The Silver Penny. What was once a dilapidated gas station appeared to be a daunting project for the young couple with three daughters. As renovations commenced, a vision for their family's future began to. Karen opened her first shop in 1990, initially on furniture and clothing, and quickly discovered her talent for finding unique items. Over the years, she shifted her focus away from clothing to concentrate on furniture and home decor.

In 2008, Karen and John transitioned from the used goods business to owning Hometown Pizza & More. Karen managed the pizza shop for eight years before deciding to return to vintage home goods, running both businesses until she ultimately chose to dedicate herself fully to her store.

In August 2020, The Silver Penny moved from its previous location at 3919 State Route 31 to the old Hometown Pizza building at 4026 State Route 31, just down the hill. The new shop features over 2,000 square feet of showroom space, ready to showcase your next great find!
